Just Play is a powerful documentary that profiles Palestinian violist Ramzi Aburedwan and his al-Kamandjati music education project. Ramzi and fellow Palestinian and international musicians teach children and youth to play classical music and perform as an orchestra. This being Palestine, there is nothing typical about their performances. Instead of concert halls, these musicians, ranging in age and skill, perform at checkpoints around Palestine. Not only do these budding musicians learn how to play Mozart and Beethoven, they also learn about the role of art in resistance. As these young musical resisters travel to the different sites, the film reveals the impact of these performances on the youth in the orchestra, the adults that instruct them, and the soldiers and Palestinians who listen to them play.
