Simon Shaheen is a virtuoso master on the violin and the oud, and a renowned composer of Arabic and Western music. In Zafir, Shaheen brings to life the Arab music of Al-Andalus and blends it with flamenco. The performance is a discovery of music that was born in the cultural centres of Iraq, Syria and Palestine, blew across the Mediterranean to Al-Andalus, blended with elements of Spanish music, and brought across the sea to North Africa.
