TPFF Thobes Talk with Nina Rafique

The Textile Museum of Canada will be hosting a special exhibition Retracing Tatreez: Palestinian Thobes through the 20th Century from September 24, 2025-May 2, 2027,

TPFF is thrilled to host a talk by Nina Rafique, the exhibition's curator. She will explore the exhibition's collection of thobes and reveal the stories of family, exile and resistance these thobes tell through their embroidered stitches.

Bio

Nina Rafique is an emerging textile artist, curator, and researcher living in Torontowith roots in Palestine and Pakistan. Retracing Tatreez, her debut exhibition at the Textile Museum of Canada, stems from eight months of research on the Museum’s collection of Palestinian and Syrian embroideries. She is inspired by and indebted to the original makers of these pieces, and hopes to raise appreciation for their work by making it more widely accessible.
