After southern Lebanon was freed from Israeli control in 2000, Mariam and her family fled across the border to live in Israel. The abrupt move was prompted by her father’s affiliation with the ‘Lahd army’, which collaborated with Israeli forces during its occupation of the country. Ten years later, Mariam and her brother return to their native village. However, their homecoming is treated with suspicion and hostility because of their father’s infamous past. This exquisitely shot film was the first Lebanese film to be officially selected by the Cinefondation competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2012.
