The Devil’s Driver is a real-life car chase thriller careening viewers through Bedouin life under occupation. Struggling to remain on their ancestral land of Yatta, Palestinian Bedouins are forced into perilous situations to support their families. Over eight years, filmmakers Daniel Carsenty and Mohammed Abugeth document the journey of Hammouda and his cousin Ismail as they smuggle Palestinian workers through the desert into Israel. If caught, they will all be jailed – but with the lack of opportunities in the West Bank the risk is worth the gamble. With striking images and landscapes, the film documents the extraordinary lengths Palestinian workers take to provide for their families, and the punitive tactics of the Israeli army to stop them.
