Making its debut in Toronto at TIFF 2013, Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi follows the acclaimed Laila’s Birthday with this ironic and critical drama that explores the relationship of two Palestinian brothers with their homeland. After an Israeli air strike destroys their family home, two brothers – Samy and Milad (aka “Stereo”) – are living in a tent near the ruins of their apartment. Stereo, an up-and-coming wedding singer, lost his wife in the attack and is too traumatized to continue singing; and Samy, an electrician, lost his ability to hear and speak. Disillusioned with the hardships of their lives in Palestine, Samy and Stereo decide to immigrate to Canada to start anew. In order to earn the money needed to travel, the brothers move in with their sister in Ramallah and buy a second-hand sound system that they rent out for all kind of events. As they work towards their goal, the reality and absurdity of everyday life in the West Bank is captured in this wry political satire.
