‘State of Serene’ explores the life of Serene ElBorno, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, as she traces her earlier life in Palestine to her present days in Bahrain. Beginning with early morning Athan in Jerusalem to the bustling sounds of street markets in Nablus and Gaza, Serene utilizes the power of memory as a political drive; her voice becoming the voice of the land. It is through the expression of personal narrative, that sensitive conversations on home, abandonment, and grief could be culturally examined.
